reflections at the end of the day

Henry David Thoreau wrote;

If you built castles in the air, Your work need not be lost;
That is where they should be, Now put the foundations under them…

In June 1998, when I graduated from Maui High School this quote was in my graduation announcement. My dream then was to graduate from a mainland college with a degree in computer engineering. But life changes. Often times we do not dictate what is going to happen in the next hour, tomorrow, or ten years from now. We have to be patient and face the challenges that present themselves throughout our life.

Life is special. With every moment, we experience something that becomes a part of our life. Often times that experience is not learned in textbooks or experimented in a lab. The knowledge gained comes from the understanding, reflecting, and utilization of that experience.

Experience is not what happens to you; it is what you do with what happens to you. – Aldous Lennox

My experiences have taken me far from my goal of being an engineer. I tried to build my foundation to becoming a computer engineer but that all changed couple years after I started at Virginia Tech. It was a hard choice to make, but I realized that being an engineer was not what I was meant to be. With an understanding and appreciation of art, I decided to transfer into the School of Arts where I ultimately obtained my Bachelor’s of Art in Studio Art in December of 2003.

Through the obstacles of this life, I stayed focused on my goal. I built my foundation to my dreams. My path is waiting to be discovered and captured through my reflections, thoughts, and these words.

Let my words be my thoughts... the reflections and truths of my life.

reflections is a short essay about my thoughts on this life.

words is a collection of my thoughts in forms of short quotes and poems.
